About
Introduction
The Beijing Key Laboratory of Topological Statistics and Applications for Complex Systems is hosted by the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA) and jointly established with Renmin University of China. The Laboratory is chaired by Prof. Shing-Tung Yau as the Academic Committee Chair and directed by Prof. Rongling Wu.
By introducing topological theories into statistical science, the Laboratory is committed to developing a new, China-originated theoretical framework of statistical topology, with a focus on statistical models and algorithms for discovering fundamental patterns and governing principles in complex and large-scale data.
The Laboratory currently consists of 54 permanent researchers, including 22 researchers with overseas Ph.D. degrees, covering a wide range of disciplines such as statistics, probability theory and data science, algebraic topology and its applications, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
Looking forward, the Laboratory aims to establish a closed-loop ecosystem integrating theoretical research and practical applications across multiple levels. Through deep interdisciplinary integration of statistics, mathematics, and computer science, the Laboratory seeks to foster new directions in applied mathematics, invigorate the development of statistics in China, and contribute Chinese perspectives and innovations to the global statistics and big data community.
